Overview
The 2024 Toyota Yaris keeps doing what small Toyotas have always done: sip fuel, dodge trouble and hold their value. Around town it runs much of the time on electric power, which is exactly where stop-start city miles hurt a normal petrol engine most. The hybrid system is not quick by hot-hatch standards, but it is smooth and very easy to live with. Cabin space is decent for the class, build quality feels solid, and the boot swallows a weekly shop without drama. It is one of those cars you buy with your head and end up liking with your heart. For a commuter who wants low running costs and Toyota's famously strong reliability reputation, the Yaris is close to the default answer in this class.
