Jaguar Type 01 Electric GT Reveal Delayed

Jaguar's long-awaited rebirth has been delayed again. The production version of its all-electric four-door GT — now officially named the Type 01 — will not be revealed in September as originally planned, but in October 2026 at an event in New York. Jaguar confirmed the new date at its investor day on 17 June, according to Autocar India. It is the second time the car's debut has been pushed back: it was first pencilled in for 2025, then September 2026, and now October. The name itself was revealed earlier this year and carries a lot of meaning. 'Type' links the car to Jaguar's greatest hits — the C-Type, D-Type and E-Type racers and road cars, plus the F-Type — while the '0' stands for zero tailpipe emissions and the '1' marks it as the first model of Jaguar's completely new era, as managing director Rawdon Glover explained. For Glover, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the one a 'one of a kind' product. Under the skin, the Type 01 is built on Jaguar's new Electric Architecture (JEA), an 850-volt dedicated EV platform developed in the UK. Three electric motors — two at the rear, one at the front — are expected to produce more than 1,000hp (around 735kW) and over 1,300Nm of torque, with all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering and torque vectoring. A 120kWh battery should deliver more than 700km — around 430 miles — of WLTP range, and ultra-rapid charging at up to 350kW could add roughly 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes. Jaguar is targeting 0-62mph in under 3.5 seconds. The car is the production version of the dramatic Type 00 concept shown in December 2024, but with four doors instead of two. It keeps the concept's long bonnet, cab-rearward stance and upright nose. At around 5.2 metres long and 2 metres wide, it will be one of the biggest Jaguars ever made, pitched against the Porsche Taycan and the Mercedes-AMG GT. Jaguar's engineers have spent serious time making it feel like a Jaguar rather than just a fast EV. The team benchmarked classics including the XK120, E-Type, V12 XJ Coupe, XJS and XJ Series I to define what Glover calls the 'Spirit of Jaguar Drive' — deep reserves of power delivered with refinement and composure. Prototypes have already been driven by the motoring press, with early reports praising the car's calm, effortless pace and crisp responsiveness. Prices are expected to start at around £120,000 to £140,000, positioning the Type 01 between top-end premium brands and ultra-luxury marques like Bentley. It will be built at Jaguar's Solihull plant in the UK, with first customer deliveries expected in the first half of 2027. An SUV and a coupe on the same platform are expected to follow, and JLR's chief commercial officer Lennard Hoornik has promised the October reveal will happen 'in a very, very special way'. What it means for UK drivers: the Type 01 is the most important Jaguar launch in a generation — the car that decides whether the brand's all-electric gamble pays off. After two delays and months of camouflaged prototypes, October's New York reveal will finally show whether the controversial rebrand has a product to match the hype.
