Chery UK: New EV and Four Models Coming

Chery has laid out an ambitious next phase for the UK market, announcing on 11 September that it will launch four new and refreshed models over the next 12 months, headlined by the Chinese brand's first fully electric vehicle for British buyers. The move comes as the company celebrates a remarkable first year on sale in Britain, with more than 29,000 registrations and a market share above 2.5 percent, ahead of several established brands. The first EV will be the centrepiece of the expansion. Chery has not yet revealed full specifications, naming details or a precise arrival date, but it confirmed at a London briefing that electrification sits at the core of its UK product strategy. Auto Express reports that the EV could be a new model or an electrified version of an existing nameplate, with more detail expected at a product summit in the coming weeks. Candidates in Chery's global line-up include the eQ7, a midsize crossover with a claimed 318-mile range in China. Alongside the electric debut, Chery will upgrade its Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system across the Tiggo 4, Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 ranges. The updated system will feature larger battery packs, delivering more electric-only range while cutting fuel consumption and emissions. The timing is deliberate: hybrids currently account for around 75 percent of Chery UK registrations, so sharpening that offering matters as much as the EV launch. Plug-in hybrids continue to appeal to drivers who want electric running for shorter journeys without giving up petrol flexibility for longer ones. Chery is also investing in British product development. Its new UK R&D Centre of Excellence at the UTAC Millbrook proving ground in Bedfordshire will play a pivotal role in tuning cars for British tastes, an area where earlier Chinese entrants were sometimes criticised. Farrell Hsu, managing director at Chery UK, said the brand's first-year performance exceeded expectations, but stressed how competitive the UK market is, promising the four new and enhanced models will keep growth on track. The numbers behind the story are striking. Entering the UK in August 2025, Chery quickly built a network of more than 100 retailers, helped by the groundwork laid by sister brands Omoda and Jaecoo, which established the UK operation and dealer relationships. Chery itself slightly pipped Jaecoo's first-year volume, powered by the Tiggo range and high-profile brand ambassadors including Sir Mo Farah and Peter Crouch. The combined Chery group, including Jaecoo, Omoda and the newer Lepas brand, is becoming one of the fastest-growing presences in the UK market. For fleet buyers, the expansion is significant. FleetWise notes that future Chery models, along with Jaecoos and Omodas, are set to become ever more competitive for company car drivers tempted out of established marques, especially with competitive pricing and strong warranty terms. As the group targets larger market shares each year, rivals in the value SUV and electrified segments will face mounting pressure. There are risks, of course. Chinese brands have expanded quickly in Britain, and questions persist about residual values, servicing networks and long-term parts availability. Chery's answer so far is scale: more models, more dealers, more local investment. With the first EV due within a year and Super Hybrid upgrades on the way, the next 12 months will test whether Chery can turn a fast start into lasting presence.
